Where a conventional cast trailer gets expensive

It is rarely the trailer line item. It is everything the trailer needs to work: a large generator, an operator to run it, a tractor or specialised tow vehicle with a driver, and the setup time that comes with all of it. On a short indie schedule those support costs can outrun the rental itself.

What is different about ours

• Power. A single 30A twist-lock, two household 20A circuits, or a 6500W portable. Dief box compatible. Our 10kW generator, if you want one, runs both trailers at once.
• Generator operator. Not required.
• Tow. A standard three-quarter-ton pickup. No special licence, no tractor, no driver.
• Entry. Low to the ground. No folding metal staircases, which is the single most common slip-and-fall on a wet or icy day.
• Rooms. A 3-room and a 5-room, each room private, each with its own heater or A/C, furniture, mirror and its own decoration.
• Setup. Spot it, plug it in, open the doors.

What you give up

Being straight about it: there are no washrooms and no plumbing. These are dry units by design, and that is exactly what keeps the weight, the complexity and the cost down. They are also not 8- or 10-room units.

If your day genuinely needs a full honeywagon, this is not the right tool and we will tell you so. If what your cast needs is somewhere warm, private and comfortable to sit between setups, without a generator and an operator attached to it, this is built for that.

Where we fit

Canada has large, well-run suppliers — Starline Production Rentals, Canadian Technical Solutions — with deep inventory and the big multi-room units. If your show needs a dozen rooms on a studio lot, or a full honeywagon with plumbing, that is who to call, and we will tell you so.

Cast trailers of that size are built around a large generator or a five-wire tie-in and someone to run it. Ours are not. Two trailers, three rooms and five, that plug into 30A and tow behind a pickup. That is the whole product, and it is aimed at the budget where the support costs around a trailer matter more than the trailer.

Who is behind it

Indie Trailers was put together by working film producers who got tired of paying for cast trailers that overpromise and under-deliver. The trailers are ESA certified, based in Burk’s Falls, Ontario, and they have been out on features, series and movies-of-the-week across Northern Ontario and the GTA.
